The latest VOSA IVA Newsletter states that from 29th October 2011 they will also be testing trucks under the IVA scheme rather than the older SVA scheme as they have been up till now….

From 29th October 2011 completed goods vehicles having a Gross Vehicle Weight of not more than 3500kgs (approval category N!) will become subject to the new EC requirements.

Trucks to be tested under IVA

This introduces IVA to vehicles previously subject to SVA. The new IVA includes more inspection items than SVA and aligns more closely to the passenger car requirements.

In order to make the change, applications for SVA will not be accepted following close of business on 23rd September 2011

The clever engineers at ShipMyCar have created a Light Control Unit (LCU) which is a universal control box to safely power the lighting modifications needed for IVA / SVA / MOT testing requirements here in the UK

IVA Light Control Module

The new control module works in modern canbus powered vehicles and provides safe connection for the additional lights required e.g. Rear Fog Light, Reversing Light, Side Repeater Indicators…

IVA, SVA and MOT requirements in the UK require imported vehicles to have an ‘e’ marked rear fog light, side repeater indicators, and amber indicators which are separate to the brake lights – wiring these incorrectly can damage the cars ECU / Smart Junction Box – a common problem in Camaro’s, Corvettes and Mustangs Shipped to the UK

We strongly advise against carrying out IVA modifications yourself – our engineers are trained in IVA modification requirements on all makes/models of vehicles.

The ShipMyCar LCU incorporates sensitive relays with diode protection and easy to reach fuses to protect the circuits and your vehicle.

Should you require any information on car shipping or the IVA modifications required to ship a car to the UK, please do not hesitate to contact us

Rewiring a Camaro for IVA purposes can be extremely tricky and can even damage your vehicle’s ECU which is very expensive to repair. It is vital that any wiring is carried out by trained IVA engineers such as ours at ShipMyCar and that any new lighting does not create any additional load on the existing circuit.

Modifications Required for IVA test:

    • Side Repeator indicators added to fenders or wing mirrors – these must be wired in properly using appropriate backward current protection, sealing and heat dispersal. We use LED side lights placed within the wing mirrors to avoid the need to drill into bodywork – see the image of the white Camaro below to see one that was drilled into fender as per customer requirement

On this Camaro for IVA we added the side repeater to fender as per customer request

    • Indicators at rear separated out from brake light and new high intensity LED added for amber flashing:

We keep the original clusters and use LED's to shine through amber in colour

    • Rear Fog Light – ensure light unit is appropriately e-marked, switch added to interior dash which must illuminate and display rear fog light symbol. Fog light must only operate within IVA guidelines

    • Side lights added to headlights – these must be correctly sealed and wired to create zero additional load on the vehicle’s electrical system

All the above are included within our full import package which you can obtain an instant quotation on our Car Shipping Website here
