The BMW Z8 was a roadster car produced by German automaker BMW from 1999 to 2003. It was given the E52 BMW model code.

The Z8 was the production variant of the 1997 Z07 concept car, which was designed by Henrik Fisker at BMW’s Designworks USA in Southern California. The Z07 originally was designed as a styling exercise intended to evoke and celebrate the 1956-’59 BMW 507. The Z07 caused a sensation at the ’97 Tokyo Auto Show. The overwhelming popularity of the concept spurred BMW’s decision to produce a limited production model called the Z8. There were 5,703 Z8s built, approximately half of which were exported to the U.S.

There are many good examples still selling in the USA and it is not a surprise that us Europeans would like to have these fantastic vehicles over here in the UK and EU, but it is not a simple process to get one back and register it for European use. First you have to contend with the car shipping process, including US collection, US customs, export procedures, containerising the car, marine insurance, UK customs, unloading and customs formalities. Be warned, doing this yourself is NOT for the faint hearted.

ShipMyCar.co.uk are the obvious choice to get your Z8 back into the UK/Europe (you can even get an INSTANT, no obligation breakdown of all costs involved using our quote system at www.shipmycar.co.uk), we handle all of the above export/import procedures to the highest of standards and as quickly as humanly possible.

We also ensure that the BMW is imported in the correct way as an EC Returning vehicle which means rather than 10% duty, you just pay £50 and then the VAT. This can save you potentially thousands of pounds….

Next are the modifications needed for MOT, a few Z8’s may still need IVA testing if under ten years old, but essentially, the modifications required in terms of IVA/MOT are the same anyway and include:

  • Rear Fog Light – this will be on the wrong side, we supply and fit new lenses and wire them up for you
  • New Headlights – these do not comply with UK/EU specification, we supply and fit your new OEM replacements
  • BMW ECU recoding – in order to separate the brake feed from the rear indicators we need to recode your BMW’s computer
  • New Brake Light Module – this is used in conjunction with recoding to ensure rear lights operate correctly
  • Rear Lights Conversion – US lights indicate red in colour which will not get through an IVA, we provide a factory-look solution by removing the neon tubes and replacing with LED, inside of your existing light cluster. This then provides amber indication and looks just how it is meant to.
  • Front sidelights – we disable the feed to these as they are not compliant with UK road laws

HID Upgrade | Conversion https://www.shipmycar.co.uk/hid-upgrade-conversion/ Mon, 25 Apr 2011 08:18:51 +0000 http://www.shipmycar.co.uk/?p=1268 HID light conversion kits, HID Xenon Bulbs and upgrade kits

HID lights can be 300% brighter than standard car lights – the clear white light produced by a Xenon bulb is similar to daylight. Research has shown that this enables drivers to concentrate better. Furthermore, this particular light colour reflects the road markings and signs better than conventional lighting once you have driven with HID Xenon you will never want to go back to Halogen.

The xenon bulb will last up to 10 times longer than a standard halogen bulb and even longer compared to the new whiter halogen bulbs. An average life is 2000 hours.

A good supplier of HID conversion kits is:

HID Lights and IVA

When importing a vehicle into the UK that is less than ten years old, you will need to have an IVA test carried out. This checks that the car complies with UK road laws and checks items such as exhaust noise, seatbelts, windscreen wipers, sprayers and lighting.

Front headlights if HID must be e-marked and have washer jets to clean them – ShipMyCar can carry out any needed conversion on your behalf

We have now carried out IVA lighting modifications on a number of 2013 MY Mustangs, including the Shelby GT500 and Boss models:

We have developed a superior method of modifying the 2013+ Mustang / Shelby / Boss rear lights to ensure the car looks completely factory finish yet complies with UK road rules and IVA test criteria. We do this by painstakingly removing all the tiny board mounted red LED’s in the rear light clusters and replacing them with amber ones to shine through the existing red lens clusters. We also use our in-house developed light control module to ensure circuits are changed to separate the brake feed in the safest possible way

The side repeaters are very carefully wired into the wing mirrors with zero visible wiring and tiny LED’s that are virtually invisible when not flashing but very bright when they are

The below video shows how we convert the 2013 Mustang rear lights for UK use and IVA test compliance

At the front of the car we take apart the headlights to remove the kick from the beam:

We specialise in Mustangs and carry out any IVA modifications using our inhouse developed Lighting Control Unit which safely powers the additional lighting required without any damage to ECU or other SJB’s.

For 2005-2009 we can replace the entire rear light cluster with a sealed European lighting unit and for 2010+ we can utilise LED’s to ensure an invisible IVA conversion
